All the kids finished their reading programs, and earned all sorts of things! There were award certificates, cupcakes, books, ice cream cones, and more books. Mady earned gift certificates to both Village Books and Rocket Donuts, and I suspect she might win the "most books read" award from the library... she lost track, but it is well over 70. And thus, a productive and lucrative summer of reading. Very UN Charlotte Mason, who recommends that reading in itself is the prize and should not be rewarded. I say, pick your battles. I'd rather have my kids excited about cupcakes than not wanting to read.
Luckily I have another trick up my sleeve for fall to earn them pizza for reading. (Reading is so yummy!)
Speaking of reading, can you suggest some good books for me? Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is next on my list, but after that I need something great!
